GOLFERS are furious that green fees at a prestigious Scottish course have been doubled for next year – which could make the course one of the most expensive in the world.

Trump Turnberry, on the Ayrshire coast, has been described as one of the best courses in the country due to its challenging terrain and dramatic scenery.

But golf fans have hit out at the Donald Trump-owned resort after it raised green fees for non-residents to £1,000 per round from the summer of 2025.

After 1pm, the cost drops to £545, which is the price for a round this summer.

For resort residents it costs £425.

The new fee to play on the Ailsa course is £56 per hole, the most expensive in Britain.

Green fees at the home of golf, the Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie in Angus and Muirfield in East Lothian, will be around £300 per round next summer.

But Turnberry could also become one of the world’s most expensive clubs during peak season, as it overtook Shadow Creek in Las Vegas, where it costs $1,250 to play a round.

At the current conversion rate, the Turnberry course fee is $1,276.52 per round. Golf Digest Report.

Golf enthusiast David Jones, also known as UK Golf Guy on social media, raised the 2025 plans at the X in front of his followers.

He said: “Some news regarding green fees until 2025.

“18 holes on the Ailsa course at Turnberry will cost £1,000 per person before 1pm for non-residents. After 1pm, £545.

“In 2013, before Trump took power, it was £176 at any point.”

At some point, other golfers became upset about the prices.

One person wrote: “Exorbitant fees are driving ordinary people away from golf.”

Another said: “This fee is completely ridiculous!”

A third commented: “Whether it’s worth it or not, people will pay for it. It’s the best golf course in Scotland.”

While a fourth said: “It’s unbelievable anyone would even think of paying such a huge amount of money!”

And a fifth said: “Not worth it, ridiculous.”
