Brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher have a long history of feuding – both physical and verbal – here’s the full history of the band and what they’ve said to each other.

1991 – Liam Gallagher formed Oasis with Paul Arthurs, Paul McGuigan and Tony McCarroll, and later asked Noel to join.

1993 – The band signed a contract with Creation Records and began work on their debut album.

August 1994 – Oasis rose to fame with their debut album, Definitely Maybe, which includes tracks such as Rock N Roll Star, Live Forever and Supersonic. It is the fastest-selling debut ever for a British band.

September 1994 – Liam temporarily withdraws from the band’s tour after Noel hits him in the face with a tambourine on stage in Los Angeles.

1995 – The band released their second album, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, which included Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back in Anger and Champagne Supernova.

1996 – Liam has to sit out a few shows on the tour due to laryngitis, but causes uproar when he is filmed harassing his brother from the balcony during a taping of MTV Unplugged.

2000 – Noel temporarily leaves the band for a second time when Liam teases Noel while partying in Barcelona by asking him if his daughter Anais is really his. The two get into a scuffle.

2005 – Noel told Q magazine that he ‘never forgave’ Liam for his comments about Anais and that he ‘never apologised’. He told the magazine: “He’s my brother. I hope he’s reading this and realises that. He’s my brother but until he apologises for what he’s done, he’s going to stay away from me.”

2009 – Noel admitted in an interview with Q that he ‘doesn’t like Liam’, labelling him “rude, arrogant, intimidating and lazy”. “He’s the angriest guy you’ll ever meet,” he said. “He’s like the man with the fork in the soup world.”

Liam later hit back, telling NME: “It takes more than blood to be my brother. He doesn’t like me and I don’t like him.”

August 23, 2009 – Oasis pull out of headlining the V Festival in the UK due to Liam suffering from laryngitis.

28 August 2009 – Prior to the Rock en Seine festival, Noel and Liam have another fight, during which Liam breaks one of Noel’s guitars, “waving it like an axe”, according to Noel.

28 August 2009 – Noel left the band for the third and final time, saying in a statement: “I’m sad and with great relief to tell you that I have left Oasis tonight. I couldn’t work with Liam another day.”

2010 – Oasis won ‘Best Album of the Last 30 Years’ for (What’s the Story) Morning Glory at the Brit Awards. Liam picked up the bell and thanked everyone except Noel. He later said it was misinterpreted as sarcasm.

2011 – Liam tried to sue Noel after Noel claimed in an interview that he had cancelled his performance at V Festival because of Liam’s hangover. Liam disputed this, saying the comment “questioned my professionalism”. He later apologised and the suit was withdrawn.

2011 – Noel told Absolute Radio that he regretted leaving the show before the gig in Paris, saying if he had done so “we would never have broken up.”

2011 – 2014 – Liam and the other band members continued under the new name, Beady Eye, while Noel formed a new band, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

2015 – After years of criticism online, particularly via the media and Twitter, Liam put his differences with Noel aside and shared an all areas pass to the High Flying Birds show. However, the feud resumed two months later after Noel publicly rejected suggestions that Oasis would reunite for Glastonbury 2016.

2017 – Liam performs at Manchester’s One Love concert following the bombing of Ariana Grande’s show, with Don’t Look Back in Anger becoming a unifying anthem for the event. He then criticises Noel for not attending the event. Noel later told the Sunday Times: “A young music fan has been murdered, and he, twice, takes it upon himself to make it about him somewhere. He needs to meet someone.”

2018 – Liam suggested a reunion for the 2018 World Cup on Twitter, writing: “Let’s get the Big O back together and stop talking rubbish about the drinks I’m on”. When this didn’t fall on deaf ears, he added: “I’ll take that as a no.”

2019 – Noel then spoke out about Liam sending ‘threatening messages’ to Anais following comments she made about his wife Sarah McDonald. Liam later publicly apologised to Anais.

2020 – Liam asks Noel to get back together for a charity event.
