Sky Sports has been forced to apologise for the use of “strong language” after the fight between Naoya Inoue and TJ Doheny ended abruptly.
Pound-for-pound star and knockout artist Inoue defends his unified bantamweight title against Doheny in Tokyo.
And the contest was heated just past the halfway mark, before the champion applied the pressure.
The 31-year-old Inoue attacked the 37-year-old T.J. Doheny with a merciless barrage of punches, but a timely bell saved Doheny.
But the Irishman came out cautiously for the seventh round and immediately signalled to the referee that something was wrong.
Doheny pointed to his back and hip, but the official declared him unable to play further.
There was confusion in the ring before Inoue was declared the winner.

But as Doheny’s team rushed into the ring to help their player, a message stood out to Sky viewers.
It read: “I apologize for any strong language used during this live event.”
The fight took place in Japan and the commentary studio was in the US, so it’s unclear where the expletives came from.

Despite this, Inoue improved to 28–0, retaining his title with 25 knockouts.
He said: “I am still a work in progress. In today’s match I especially want to celebrate what TJ Doheny brought to this match, to this ring and to his career.
“I would like to thank them and yes, you can expect more from me in the future.”
