WHEN MARTIN Rogan sparred with teenager Tyson Fury – he knew there was a future world champion in the making.
Fury knocked out Rogan in five rounds in 2012 during his rise to the top of the heavyweight division.
But Rogan shared the ring with the future Gypsy King several years ago – and instantly recognised his potential.
he said Whiskey ‘n White Podcast“The funny thing is when he was 17, Nugget (Gerry Nugent) called me up and asked if I would come and compete against this guy from England who was trying to get into the Irish team.

I went down and he said, ‘Turn him around, go three or four rounds with him and hit him easy.’
“I went in and fought him and landed some good shots and was working on his body, and then I got on the boxing apron and asked him his name.
“He said ‘It’s Tyson Fury’ and I said ‘That’s a great name. Is that your real name?’. He said ‘Oh yeah, yeah, my real name is Tyson Fury.’
“I said to him, ‘If you keep boxing like this and keep progressing like this, you’re only 17, there’s no doubt you’ll be the world heavyweight champion.’
“And today, he is, or was, the heavyweight champion of the world.”
Rogan, now 49, retired in 2014 with a record of 16 wins and six losses – once winning the Commonwealth title.

Meanwhile, 36-year-old Fury proved Rogan’s point by defeating Wladimir Klitschko in 2015.
After a period out of the ring amid battles with depression and substance abuse, Fury returned in 2018 and became champion again two years later.

But he lost his WBC belt to 37-year-old Oleksandr Usyk in May, his first defeat, and a rematch is now scheduled for December 21.
