Daniel Dubois is the shy new king of British boxing – a title his father knew was always meant for him.
The Londoner has been on a unique journey since he first reached the top Boxing At the age of seven, that culminated in his brutal knock-out win over Anthony Joshua.

The win establishes Dubois as the IBF world champion and dispels accusations that he is a “giver” following losses to Joe Joyce and Oleksandr Usyk.
Those two setbacks are now just part of the story of Dubois’ rise to the top, but the moment he knocked out Joshua with a devastating right hook in the fifth round was the one he had been training for since he was five years old.
His father, Dave, put him through rigorous exercises that left scars on his finger joints from hours of clenched fist press-ups.
But Dubois insists he “really enjoyed” the training regime, and was happy to live the life of an athlete, because his father “told his grandmother and mother when he was in the womb that he would be a world champion.”
Dubois, 27, was also warned not to use the phone and was home-schooled along with her siblings, several of whom are also fighters, including world champion sister Caroline.
He still uses a phone without internet and has never had a drink in his life. He admitted that “the outside world stayed away from him,” as he was so busy in the gym.
But he says his father was disciplinarian rather than strict, and Dave believes those training sessions in his childhood helped Dubois become a powerful player.

“That’s why he’s so strong. I just wanted to strengthen his mind because boxing is a tough sport. Not just anyone can do it.”

Round by round: How Dubois demolished Joshua
ANTHONY JOSHUA bravely picked himself up off the floor against Daniel Dubois – until he couldn’t go on any more.
AJ was knocked down four times by Dubois in round five before a powerful counter right ended the show in dramatic fashion.

round 1
Dubois moved quickly with the jab and had Joshua bouncing around, struggling to deal with the piston-like left.
A massive right hand from Dubois sent AJ staggering backwards with his hands still down from the opening bell.
Joshua paid the price for his mistake, as he came out with his hands down and got felled by an overhand right.
Round 2
Joshua – who only survived the knockout at the bell after falling to the ground – struggles to move forward as he is hit with blows to the face.
AJ is stumbling around the ring and his guard is dangerously low again and the pressure is mounting.
Joshua is trying to get back in the fight, but his jab looks very sluggish – it looks like he can’t recover from the knockdown.
Round 3
AJ comes out with more intent, but swings wildly with a right hand and only connects with thin air.
Dubois increased the pressure and backed Joshua into the corner and scored another knockdown.
The bell sounds but then Dubois lands the ball a time or two – once again AJ is saved by the clock as the writing looks to be on the wall.
Round 4
Accident happens again, Joshua falls to the ground once again – he loses his balance the moment he touches the canvas.

Dubois slowed down as round four ended, while Joshua showed great resilience to stay in the match.
Round 5
Joshua lands a powerful right hand and Dubois’ legs buckle – a surprise turnaround looks likely.
AJ presses Dubois to the ropes and attempts one of his signature uppercuts, but the counter right hand gets there first.
Joshua is caught straight on the chin, knocked down once again and this time out for good. Dubois scores a stunning KO win.
DuBois compares his father to a prophet and says he wanted to make him “proud” by winning every competition.
Dave took his son to the famous Peacock Gym in Canning Town – where Lennox Lewis and Frank Bruno He had been trained once – when he was seven, and had instructed Dubois to accompany his siblings on a tour around the estate.
Dubois went on to have a stellar amateur career and at the age of 16 was invited to join the GB Boxing programme – where he defeated Joshua in sparring.
But Dubois turned down the opportunity to fight in the Tokyo Olympics and instead turned professional, winning his first 15 bouts before losing to Joyce.
Dave is proud of his son, particularly the fact that he made him a “millionaire at the age of 20”, with his first six-figure sum coming during his fight against Richard Lartey in 2019.
DuBois is not shy about spending his earnings,

Daniel Dubois has shattered Anthony Joshua’s dreams of becoming a three-time world heavyweight champion, writes Wally Downes Jr.
Joshua was stunned Four Dubois retained his IBF belt by scoring a stunning fifth-round knockout in front of a record 96,000 Wembley crowd and millions of TV viewers.
