Kim and his partner Im Sung-jae competed against Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley of the USA in Montreal.

However, Scheffler and Kim clashed on the front nine during the American pair’s 3&2 victory.

After making a 27-foot putt for birdie on the seventh hole, Kim pumped a fist and yelled “Let’s go!”

Scheffler also made birdie on the hole before yelling: “What was that?”

The back-and-forth continued at the eighth as Kim again celebrated wildly after another long putt for birdie.

He then left the hole for the ninth tee, before Scheffler missed his birdie attempt.

Kim’s behavior has since been criticized, with USA assistant captain Kevin Kisner telling Golf Channel: “He took sportsmanship too far and went beyond the bounds of sportsmanship and lost some integrity.”

Meanwhile, Sky Sports pundit Paul McGinley said: “This borders on bad behaviour… it’s disgraceful in my opinion.”

Addressing the incident, Kim explained: “There was no reason to stop there and look at it. It doesn’t help us at all.”

“It wasn’t trying to be cheap or anything like that. We were focused on our game.

“He is a good friend. But at the same time, I don’t like him this week. “I want to beat him up real bad and I’m sure he feels the same way.”

Scheffler downplayed it, saying, “I would have done the same thing at home. It’s all in good fun. We’re friends afterward. We’re not friends afterward.”

The United States won each of the first four balls to lead 5–0.

Their opponents have struggled since then, with the international team trailing 11-7 heading into Sunday’s final day.
