Armored MMA is a bizarre promotion where opponents dress up as knights and do battle with swords in a cage.
When the UFC began in 1996, it was described as “human cockfighting” with very few rules allowing for brutality.
But over the past two decades the sport has improved so much that it is now one of the most profitable sports in the world.
Although that hasn’t stopped others from making weird and bizarre comments on the now mainstream game.
There have been handicap bouts, intergender bouts, and even team fighting in Russia.
But now a new concept blends the new school of extraordinary MMA with the medieval old school.
The next step in armored MMA.
The bizarre footage showed contestants wearing full knightly armour and entering the cage carrying swords and shields.

And they can still use these weapons as points of attack while using traditional MMA moves such as punches, kicks and knees.
The bout can be won by stoppage or based on the scorecards, with points being earned even by disarming your opponent.

This is the first effort of its kind in the US, but surprisingly, medieval MMA was introduced to Europe long before this.
But rather than a cage, the bouts will take place in a ring – although the competitors will still be decked out in full knightly armour.
Russia’s M-1 Global – formerly a major player on the European MMA circuit – once had its own intermediate division.
They used these bouts as interval entertainment between their more conservative major rivals.
But it became so popular among supporters that a separate event for the knights’ fight was required.
Swords – which were blunt – weighed up to 2 kg, shields weighed about 1 kg and helmets up to 3 kg, with the total weight of armour being up to 20 kg.
The idea originated from Historical Medieval Battle, a sport developed in Russia in the late 1990s in which competitors reenact battles from the past.
