Plans for a new championship golf course on land next to the historic Gleneagles Hotel Resort were first unveiled in 2007.
Two years later the course was completed and ready for play.
However, till date it has never been opened to the public.
Now it lies virtually abandoned, and golf fans refer to it as the “ghost course.”
The reason why the facility remains closed to this day is due to financial uncertainty, political turmoil, and the background of a mysterious owner who once declared himself the richest man in the world.

Mr Alexander said: “Americans want to invest in golf properties and courses Scotland and I believe Camperdown has the potential to become the leading course in the UK again.
“In this sense, we are working hard to repurpose these areas to ensure they can be utilised to their full potential.
“There’s still a lot to explore, but clearly the interest is incredibly positive.”
