A golfer at The Open has humorously apologised to a man who was forced to work harder than anyone else at Royal Troon this week.

Min Woo Lee expressed sympathy for a worker on the course whose job is to clear all the bunkers on Hole 8, known as the Postage Stamp.

There are five bunkers surrounding the green, meaning a lot of shots land in the sand.

Lee was one of the golfers who found the bunker with an approach shot, so he later pointed out the worker’s effort and apologized for giving him more work.

The golfer tweeted: “In case people don’t know, at the Open there’s a guy on each group that cleans the bunkers, but there’s a specific guy on the 8 (stamp) that does that job.

“I feel bad for the guy, his arms are about to fall off. Sorry from me and the professionals here 😂 #brutal”

Another guy who had a nightmare on Hole 8 was Romain Langasque.

The Frenchman had a temper that left him fuming in the first round at Postage Stamp after his errant tee shot saw the ball travel a few metres and land in the rough.

Langaske later revealed that he had injured his back on the fourth hole and thought it best not to continue.

Several other big-name players also suffered early-round losses, including Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy, who shot 7 over par.

The world number two missed the cut at The Open for the first time since 2019.

Even when he threw the golf club in the air and tried to catch it, it hit his face.
