Controversy with fans over Scheffler’s caddie earning more than Tiger this year

Scottie Scheffler’s caddie faced a hilarious online spat with a fan over earning more than Tiger Woods this year.

TED Scott has earned a whopping £4million to join the race to become world number one in 2024.

And assuming Scheffler is paying him ten per cent of his winnings, £2 million of that came at last week’s Tour Championship, when Scheffler secured the FedEx Cup.

That annual total, incredibly, would put Scott 19th in PGA Tour earnings for 2024 — ahead of more than 200 professional golfers.

This includes some top stars like Viktor Hovland, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Thomas, and Tiger Woods at 216th place.

Woods, who is one place behind Vijay Singh but ahead of Luke Donald, has won £34,000 on the course this year – all after he made history at the Masters having missed three cuts and withdrawn from his only other events.

However, some fans were unimpressed by Scott’s financial situation – one estimated “ten million people” could afford his work.

The claim came in response to a sarcastic tweet from veteran golfer-turned-caddie Kip Henley.

Henley wrote: “I’ll pay @jtedscott $1.5 million to work as my caddie next year. It’s risky, but I think it’s a solid plan.”

“Teddy Boy can sit on the couch and not have to worry about stepping in a pothole and hurting his ankle. It’s fair.”

But one golf fan took exception to the satire, saying: “’Caddy’ is the most exaggerated ‘job’ in history.

“There are literally 10 million people in America who could do Ted’s job.”

But Scott – who regularly engages with supporters on X – refused to ignore the comment and responded in style.

He jokingly responded: “Wrong. Not everyone will want to spend time with you because you’re negative and post nasty tweets.”

“That leaves 9,999,999 people who can do my ‘job.'”

Scott – who previously worked with Bubba Watson – took over as Scheffler’s caddie in 2021, helping guide the star through his rounds, reading greens, calculating yardages, selecting clubs and sharing his wisdom and advice while carrying the bag.

Since then, their relationship has proven particularly fruitful as the 28-year-old from New Jersey has established himself as one of the best golfers in the world.

Scheffler has won 13 times on the PGA Tour and has secured the Masters title in 2022 and again in 2024.

This year he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Players Championship, RBC Heritage, Memorial, Travelers and then finished the year with the Tour Championship – while also winning an Olympic gold medal and becoming a father.

However, Scott was unable to attend a round of the PGA Championship to attend his daughter’s high school graduation ceremony.

And the caddie wasn’t 100 percent during the Open — at one point he had to lie down on the course because he felt unwell.
