The biggest name in the world of YouTube golf believes he has found a new secret to his driver.
And it revolves around something small.
Rick Shiels has amassed nearly three million followers on YouTube since he began making instructional golf videos just over a decade ago.
He is one of the most trusted voices when it comes to equipment, swing tips, and insight into the game.
He was recently spotted filming with Scotland’s own Tom Stoltman – three-time World’s Strongest Man winner – and he gave him some pointers on the course (while also telling him about some of his strangest requests from rabid fans. Also came to know…).
Perhaps his next advice would be to try a unique miniature version of the driver to improve your game.
In a recent video, Shiels tested Maazel’s 50cc driver.
For comparison, most drivers nowadays have 460cc heads – making them about ten times larger than this piece of kit.
In VideoShiels explained that he would hit a few shots with his driver, then in the shorter version, before returning to drive some more with the regular club.
The results were eye-opening.
Shiels began: “460cc is the limit of a driver’s head.
“Designed for speed, forgiveness, accuracy, and let’s be honest, we’re now used to it.
“But in this hand, I have a driver that is very, very different.
“It’s a 50cc driver. I mean, talk about a mini driver, it’s a tiny, teeny weeny driver.
“When I was first sent this, I thought, ‘What the hell? Why, why would anyone make a 50cc driver?’
“But again, it made me think, there’s a point to this. There’s a real valid point to this golf club.
“If you think about it, it’s a training aid. If you can hit that tiny, tiny driver right in the middle of the sweet spot, imagine how easy it is to hit the head of that huge 460cc driver in the middle ?”
After explaining how he would use the club, Shiels explained how much it costs and how you can use it yourself.
He added: “And what’s attractive is, it’s $90. So it’s not super expensive.
“Like if you think of it as a training aid that will help you get better, as long as it works, it’s a pretty good price.
Golf legend John Daly surprises DeChambeau with unique golf cart“It’s like you can buy it in the off season, take it to the driving range. You can use it before you take it off on the first tee, so that when you grab your normal driver, it looks huge.
“You know, you can also buy it just for fun with your friends.
“Like, imagine it’s in your regular four-ball set and there’s a three-ball putt penalty or something like that that you have to tee off on the next hole for it.
“I think there are a lot of benefits to it.”
Shiels fired a few drives away with his usual weapon of choice before changing things up.
And he commented that the clubhead actually looked smaller than the golf ball it was supposed to connect with.
Initially he struggled to hit the ball from the sweet spot.
But after some changes he started seeing changes.
“Oh, yes! Look at that! Oh my God. I think I’ve perfected golf,” he said after hitting a spectacular shot.
“I think I might retire forever. I think it’s the straightest golf shot I’ve ever hit.”
He added, “I think the biggest thing the smaller club taught me was that I don’t focus enough on the middle. I would really focus on focused strikes.”
After switching back to his normal driver, Shiels admitted that although the short version didn’t make an immediate magical improvement, he could definitely see its benefits.
“I like the little head, I do.
“Should you avoid all costs, consider or buy right away?

“It’s a matter of straight up buying and considering, but I think I’ll have to go with the idea.
“It’s a good training aid, it is, and I think it will help golfers.”
