Paul Waring was left in trouble after an upset golf fan broke protocol by shouting during the English star’s downswing.

The brouhaha happened during the second round of the DP World Tour Championship on Friday.

Sky Sports indicated that this was probably an accidental timing issue from one of Waring’s own friends.

But the audience, whoever it may be, expressed its support long ago.

As the 39-year-old swung his club back on the 10th hole, a booming voice shouted: “Go on warring”.

Confused, Waring turned to see where the inappropriate support was coming from and was dismayed by the sudden interruption.

And even the Sky Sports commentators were in shock.

He said: “Oh, that was a bit early. One of his friends won’t be his friend for very long.”

“That was bad. Right down.”

Waring was depicted throwing his club at his caddy before walking down the fairway.

He was on top of the leaderboard before the shot but has slipped four times back after a score of one under 71.

Waring dropped to T9 to sit alongside compatriots Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Wallace.

Golfing protocol stipulates that one should never talk while another player is taking a shot.

In fact, the only time a person is allowed to shout is to warn others about an incoming ball, with the words: “Four”.

Meanwhile, Waring achieved the biggest win of his career by winning his second career title on the European Tour in Abu Dhabi five days ago.

The Englishman produced a brilliant performance to beat countryman Tyrrell Hatton by two shots, closing with a six-under-par 66 at Yas Links.

The 229th-ranked Briton was one stroke ahead overnight and finished on 24 under.
