Justin Thomas was primed to perform well on the final day of the Open.
But unfortunately for the American, it nearly came ashore in the Firth of Clyde.
Thomas stepped up to the first tee well for the equaliser but wasted his chances after getting into a nightmare position.
To avoid bunkers on the left side of the fairway, his first drive went so far to the right that one fan commented that “even the fish were bending over.”
Commentator Andrew Coltart pulled no punches in his commentary for Sky Sports.
He said: “This is not the start you want,” he said. “Please give me another ball. This is embarrassing. It’s out of bounds there. 35 yards out of bounds.”
Ironically, Thomas was so intent on staying out of the sandy bunkers that he ended up on the beach.
Thomas was forced to take another tee shot, which he managed to put straight into the sand trap that had caused the problem in the first place.

After missing a short putt to trail by six shots, the former world No. 1’s hopes were dashed as he recorded a triple bogey, leaving him seven shots off the lead.
Thomas managed to record par scores on the second, third and fourth holes despite strong winds.

Overnight leader Billy Horschel has revealed why he is taking his West Ham golf bag with him to Royal Troon.
The 37-year-old from Florida is running with the Hammers logo front and center on the course.
Horschel has now revealed that he has the blue and red bag because he is a huge Hammers fan after watching the classic film Green Street.
He said: “In my second year of college I moved into a new apartment and the cable wasn’t going to be connected for a few days so we went to Best Buy and bought some DVDs, one of them was of Greene Street.
“I loved the film, I loved Charlie Hunnam’s performance as an actor and obviously the film is about the Millwall and West Ham companies, that’s where I started following them.
“Ever since NBC Sports started showing Premier League games about 10-12 years ago, I’ve been paying a lot of attention to them.
“I’m always watching their matches and the Premier League, but I follow them (West Ham) very closely and I know how they’re doing, how the transfer window is and I’m as much a fanatic supporter of theirs as I am of my Florida Gators.”
