While the European Championship tempts Germany, he is making plans fc bayern His squad for the upcoming season.
Particularly in defence, there will be a change for the record champions, who only came third last season. Hiroki Ito (25) arrives from Stuttgart, Jonathan Tah (28) is to be brought in from Bayer Leverkusen. Josip Stanisic (24), who was on loan last time, returns and gets a new contract until 2029.
Others, however, might have to go…
Sport Bild had reported that Dutchman Matthijs de Ligt was surprisingly considered a candidate for sale. The 24-year-old was one of the most consistent central defenders last season – but if sold, the Munich player would fetch a hefty fee, which the record champions could use for personnel changes.
However, Lothar Matthäus (63) can’t really understand it. In his column for Sport Bild he writes: “De Ligt now knows he can leave if there is a suitable offer because Bayern have agreed with Jonathan Tah and want to get him from Leverkusen. I trust Tah to make it at Bayern. He has developed well under Xabi Alonso and is also playing consistently in the national team. But I see De Ligt as the strongest of all Bayern’s central defenders – and not as a candidate for sale.”
In the column, Matthäus suggests Bayern should seek the transfer of exceptional German talent Florian Wirtz (21), who is unlikely to leave Leverkusen until next summer.
The big transfer target for this summer is Munich’s Xavi Simons (21), recently on loan to RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain. The young Dutchman’s transfer fee is likely to be the same as Harry Kane’s (he came from Tottenham for 100 million euros).
