Golf superstar Hideki Matsuyama had his passport stolen at a London airport just days after winning a medal at the Paris Olympics.
The top Japanese PGA Tour player also stopped over in Britain to practice while travelling from France to the US for the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, Tennessee.
Matsuyama finished third in men’s stroke play at the Olympics, behind Scottie Scheffler and Tommy Fleetwood.
But his trip to the US suffered a setback at an undisclosed airport in London.
Golf Digest Japan Matsuyama’s passport was reportedly stolen, along with the travel documents of caddie Shota Hayato and coach Mikihito Kuromiya.
This caused the three to miss their flight to Memphis and instead return to Japan to get reissued passports.
Matsuyama then headed to the US for the latest PGA Tour event.

However, his team has not come with him, meaning Matsuyama will use a substitute caddy and play entirely without a coach.
And the 32-year-old, who won the 2021 Masters, is now hoping to overcome the shock of his robbery with a win in Memphis.
“There’s a good chance they (my team) will make it, but we have to go in with the idea that it’s almost zero,” he told Golf Digest Japan.
“I’m going to play golf the same way I did before the coach came.”
“I feel like all the responsibility is on me.
“I’m looking forward to this happening for the first time in a long time.
“I want to teach (my new caddie) everything I’ve learned on the course.”
Matsuyama has already won one PGA Tour event this year, a stunning victory at the Genesis Invitational in February.
