RANGERS have congratulated ‘one of their own’ as a Scottish golf star booked his place at The Open with a stunning win.
Ewen Ferguson was happy to be back playing after a recent health problem – but he achieved so much more than that.
Ferguson, 28, finished on top at the BMW International Open in Munich on Sunday.
Winning by two shots, the Glasgow-born veteran claimed his third victory on the DP World Tour and his first in almost two years.
His impressive win also earned him a spot in the Open Championship, which would be his second appearance at a major.
Ferguson will be playing against the best players in the world next weekend, and all eyes will be on Troon.
His win in Germany placed him among the top five players on the Race to Dubai rankings who had not yet secured an exemption for the Open.
But now he has booked his ticket.
After his big win, Ferguson looked emotional while speaking to Sky Sports live on television.
Earlier this week, he said he felt lucky to be back on the field after recently suffering from dizziness.
Ferguson had to sit out a few tournaments, most recently returning at the KLM Open late last month.

Trying to hold back tears, Ferguson said his win was like a “dream”.
He told Sky: “I literally can’t believe it.
“The last four holes I felt like I was in a dream, I didn’t think it was really happening. It was crazy. I was hitting really well, hitting farther than normal.
“I wanted to do this for my dad, my mom, my sister, my brother. I love them so much and every shot I hit, I did it with them in mind.
“It’s a very tough sport. I’ve been very stressed and sick the last two months. (It) takes a lot of weight off my shoulders. I’m very happy.”
“The Open Championship is a tournament everyone wants to play in and I think I can do well there and also do well at the Scottish Open next week.”
“This is a very exciting time for me.”
Ferguson has never been shy about his support for Rangers, having previously revealed how he would prefer to end up with a caddie supporting Celtic.
And Rangers were on hand to congratulate Ferguson after his big moment at the weekend.
Speaking to X, the Ibrox club said: “It’s one of our own.”
“Congratulations to Rangers FC fan @ewbof”
Ferguson also revealed he wanted to play in this weekend’s qualifying tournament as his last attempt to secure a spot at the Open.
Obviously, this won’t be needed anymore.

Ferguson will compete in next week’s Scottish Open before heading to Troon.
As usual, the huge event takes place the week before the Major, this year taking place at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick.
