Tiger Woods has hit back at legendary Scottish golfer Colin Montgomerie, who urged Woods to retire.
The 48-year-old golf legend is set to play in The Open at Royal Troon this weekend.
Woods has hit back at Montgomery after the 61-year-old talked about retirement in an interview last week.
In an interview earlier this week, Montgomery said: “Aren’t we there yet? I thought we were past that point.
“There comes a time for all players to say goodbye, but it was especially difficult to tell Tiger that it was time to go,” he said.
“Obviously, he still thinks he can win. We’re more realistic.”
When asked to respond to the claims, Woods used the opportunity to take aim at his former PGA Tour rival.

“As a former (Open) champion I am exempt until the age of 60. That is not the case with Colin, because he is not a former champion, so he is not exempt,” he said.
“He doesn’t have the right to make that decision. I do. When I’m his age I’ll have the right to make that decision. Not him.”
When Woods was asked if his hopes of winning another major tournament had diminished over the past few years, he replied sternly, “No.”
Woods has faced injury problems throughout his incredibly successful career.
And he has already defied the odds once, returning from back surgery to win the 2019 Masters.
Following a car accident in 2021, Woods has struggled to find the form that has served him so well in the past.
Woods managed to make the cut at this year’s tournament at Augusta, but the final scorecard was 16 over par.
Now, he is back for The Open, a course he has played only twice in his career, in 1997 and 2004.
When asked about the course he said, “There’s a way to use the ground to your advantage and shape it to hit shots.”
“Look at some of the past champions who have been great at driving the golf ball and using the ground. This golf course allows you to do that.
“I think the older you get, the less you can carry the ball. But here, if you get the right wind and the right direction, you can carry the golf ball 100 yards.”
