Gijon’s Alfredo Garcia Heredia is leading the European Golf Masters together with Englishman Alex Fitzpatrick. The DP World Tour tournament was played at the Crans-sur-Sierre club in Crans Montana (Switzerland).
García Heredia and Fitzpatrick started the tournament with rounds of 63 strokes (7 under par). One less than the quartet formed by the Englishman Matt Wallace, the Swede Henrik Norlander, the Australian Jason Scrivener and the Dutchman Daan Huizinga.
The 42-year-old from Gijón, ranked 629th in the world, delivered a card with an eagleHey made five birdies and no mistakes to establish himself as the co-leader at Crans Montana. Fitzpatrick followed that feat with seven birdies.
A very fluid phase
“I played very well. I was lucky with the draw, it didn’t rain, there was a little windBut I played really well on the par fives, hit the greens well, my irons were good. It was one of those rounds where everything flowed,” Garcia-Heredia said.
“My putting has improved a lot since the BMW International, My strength in the game is generally playing well with my driving irons, the weakness has been my putting.
In addition to García Heredia, Twelve other Spaniards are playing in Switzerland. Iván Cantero, Ángel Hidalgo and Nacho Elvira (-3) and Adriá Arnaus and Alejandro del Rey (-1) won the field.
