When Gareth Bale stormed into the Alfred Dunhill Pro-Am event this month, he probably expected to be one of the stars of the show.

But one mischievous four-legged friend had other ideas… and he quickly put his ball into the Ruff.

Jock the cockapoo went viral after he ran onto the green and stole the former Wales and Real Madrid star’s golf ball.

He had just put the ball on the green when his four-year-old furry friend ran after him, picked him up and ran back to the vines and his owner.

The crowd watching at Carnoustie was stunned, with a mixture of laughter and disbelief at the situation.

A little-known rule allowed Bell to put his ball back in its original position and this time, with Jock safely back on his edge, the Welshman’s second attempt at a shot was kept out.

The Jocks boss, who wished to remain anonymous, has now revealed what Bell’s reaction was to the unprecedented incident.

he told messenger: “We arrived at the car park and headed to the first tee.

“Gareth Bale and Jamie Redknapp were teeing and we followed them to the hole.

“Gareth Bale was a little behind the green. He took his shot and Jock was off his lead.

“He went out right after the ball.

“No matter how many times I yelled at him, it felt like paint had been applied to his ears.

“I was a little embarrassed and should have stayed ahead but it happened so quickly!

“He (Bell) was standing there. I was able to get him back on his lead when Jock came back to him with his ball.

“Nothing was really said.”

However, Bell later stopped by for a quick chat after apologizing.

Jock’s owner said: “When he left the first tee, he went over to the second hole and started signing things and taking pictures.

“He passed me and Jock, I said to him: “I hope you’ve got your equal status” and he replied: ‘Yes, I’ve got it’.”

While the viral moment elicited plenty of laughs, Jock’s owner admitted to feeling somewhat embarrassed – especially as it sparked a debate about dogs on golf courses.

He said: “I’m really quite embarrassed because some golfers may be upset by this.

“Then there are some dog owners who think I’m an irresponsible person who will ruin them all.”

As for Jock himself?

He didn’t pay any attention to the chaos around him – it was just a game after all.

His owner added: “He is the same as he always is.
