Paige Spiranac defends Rory McIlroy and angrily says ‘let him rest’

Paige Spiranac has defended Rory McIlroy following his defeat at the US Open.

The Northern Irish golfer missed out on his first major tournament in a decade as Bryson DeChambeau snatched victory from him.

The 35-year-old McIlroy bogeyed three of the final four holes, erasing his lead and ending his chances of victory.

As soon as the final ball fell, he left the Pinehurst Resort.

A video has also surfaced in which he is allegedly seen driving away after refusing to give an interview.

However, Paige, 31, has defended the golfer and insisted he should be given a “break”.

He wrote: “This is a strong response but I don’t care when athletes do this.

“They gave us their all and made it a fun day for us.

“I’m heartbroken for Rory at the moment and can’t even imagine how he must be feeling.
