Former Ryder Cup star Paul Broadhurst surprisingly missed the ball when attempting a simple tap-in at the Seniors Open.
The 58-year-old carded a three-under 69 to finish the first round at Carnoustie in second place.

But if he had not made any mistakes, he could have ended the day tied with Canada’s Stephen Ames.
Needing to tap in from above the hole to make par, Broadhurst stunned golf fans when he missed the ball completely on his second attempt.
The commentator said: “To me that looks like a stroke of effort.”
And that was indeed the case, as after admitting the mistake Broadhurst suffered a most unexpected bogey.
while talking to Sky Sports After the event, Broadhurst, who competed in the 1991 Ryder Cup, said: “I messed up a bit in the seventh round.
“I had to declare a penalty on myself. I made a fresh air putt.
“I don’t know what happened. I don’t know if my balance was off, I should have gotten out of it.
“But my putter went over the ball and went past the ball, so I checked it with the referee.

“I made a fair effort to play the ball, so I had to make that call.”
Reacting to the bizarre moment, one fan said: “He’s just like me.”
Another said: “That’s because he looks at the hole when he puts… 🙄.”
A third replied: “That’s not clever.”
While a fourth wondered: “Did he count it?”
Broadhurst’s 1991 Ryder Cup performance was disappointing, as the USA won by a single point in South Carolina.
The Walsall-born golfer’s best performances came 17 years apart at The Open, where he finished tied for 12th in 1990 and 2007.
