Sunny Edwards suffered a horrific injury during his win over Adrian Curiel last night.
The 28-year-old British player was looking to bounce back from his loss to Jesse Rodriguez last time out in this bout.
In an attempt to get back to winning ways, Edwards faced Mexican Curiel in Phoenix, Arizona.
The former flyweight champion outlasted his opponent for eight rounds before the fight was stopped on doctor’s recommendation.
Despite his dominance, he was not immune to competition.
Edwards was badly bloodied after an inadvertent clash of heads with Curiel.
In this incident, he suffered a deep wound above his eye.
Edwards was booed by the crowd after his technical decision win.
Reacting after taking the mic, he said, “I don’t know if the crowd knows what happened there.
“The doctor stopped the cut without any decision from me, I’m more upset than the 10,000 fans here.

“I felt I was ahead and my opponent was slowing down.
“I thought I was going to outsmart him or win it outright.
“I came back from Arizona two times in a row and worse, so I want to apologize to the fans who took it personally, but I had no hand in the refs stopping it.
“Maybe I’ll come back and fight Curiel again, I don’t know what the fans want.”
