The Germans were in trouble in the opening minutes but Kai Harvetz brought them under control with a comfortable save to keep out Peter Gulacsi’s shot in the fifth minute.

The dynamic Hungary had no respect for Germany – and this led to a brilliant drama.
Havertz should have scored in the 11th minute when he beat Attila Feola from point-blank range and his shot drew a superb reaction from Gulacsi.
Toni Kroos picked out Andrich from a corner and the midfielder hit a powerful volley that went wide.
But Hungary returns – a trademark electric counter attack Sallai’s shot was eventually saved by Joshua Kimmich.
Then Germany attacked.

In the second minute of added time, Nagelsmann lost control with the officials over the decision of a free-kick by Dutch referee Danny Makkelie against Kimmich after he had challenged Barnabas Varga.
Teasing of Szoboszlai Distribution The ball was flicked on, Neuer dived to push it over – and Sallai scored with a header from three yards for what looked like a surprise equaliser.
But, no. The offside flag was raised and VAR soon confirmed it.
Hungary deserved to equalise thanks to a thrilling effort in the first half.
Hungary earned a lot of praise for their approach, and gave their all to stay in the tournament.
But they had to save two goals from Gundogan and Kroos in the space of seconds by Gulacsi to keep the Germans out.
However, Hungary were in a strong position at the break, with tremendous pace and power on both flanks – and they should have equalised on the hour mark.
Sallai did very well and put in a superb cross from far away. Post And Varga got up all the way to meet it – but the ball went over the header.
It was a great opportunity.
And Germany put the game to bed in the 67th minute – Gundogan clinically executing a superb Maximilian Mittelstadt cut-back after quality build-up play.

And they were also denied a consolation goal in the final minutes when Kimmich cleared the ball off the line from Orban after Neuer had missed a cross.

The result means that if Scotland beat Switzerland tonight and Hungary on Sunday, they are almost assured of second place in the group – unless Germany lose against Switzerland.
If the Germans drop points against Switzerland, two wins in their next two games would give Scotland a great chance of becoming one of the best third-placed teams to reach the last 16.
