Danny Quartermain won a bloody and brutal battle last Saturday – which left him needing four stitches – but his superhero dad still joked he was a ‘lunatic’.
The 27-year-old super-featherweight was dropped in the first round by James Chereji, leaving him with a badly cut and swollen eye.
But he refused to give up and won by unanimous decision – which made his score 12-0 – which impressed almost everyone except the main man.
After his battle wounds are stitched up, 1st Battalion paratrooper Quarterman Sr. takes the fun opportunity to remind his fearless son who will always be the strongest man at the dinner table.
The Leamington Spa star laughingly told SunSport: “I had two stitches in my eyebrow and two stitches in my head and I looked at him and he looked at me and said ‘p***y’.
“But this is coming from a guy who once had 22 stitches in his forehead, so I have to accept it and move on.
“But that mindset has always been there in me. I’ve never been pressured too much to do anything.
“I have always understood how important it is to give your all, never give up and fight to win.
“My dad never boxed, but he practiced martial arts a lot and he also worked as a doorman for a long time, from the age of 16, traveling around the country.
“So I think that fighting mentality has always been there in him and now it’s in me as well.”
Boxing features some of the strongest fighters in the world, but there are still contenders who play the role of a powerhouse.
Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk He proved he was for real in his Undisputed duel in May – only for attention-seeking John Fury to destroy his boy’s chances of immortality with ridiculous corner work.
Thankfully, Quartermain knows that his old father – who also valiantly served and protected us in the Pathfinder Platoon – is too honorable to commit such a feat.
He told us: “You’ll never see him jumping up and down and celebrating, never. For my dad it’s a case of ‘job done’.
“He won’t go the John Fury way, he’s very calm. He taught me to stay quiet and endure everything, then react if needed.
“Dad’s definitely not getting up and getting involved in anything, I’m sure he’s seen enough bastards at doors in his lifetime so he avoids them all.
“I’d never find him in my corner talking about my coach, I’d rather go over the ropes and see him throwing people out for free!”
Role at Aston Martin
Despite his father being a real-life James Bond, Quartermain cut ties with 007’s favourite supercar company, Aston Martin, when the company tried to cut his training time.
A steady 9-5 job with one of the world’s most lucrative motor companies wasn’t enough to stop this proud Midlands boy from becoming a local legend and securing his family’s future.
“I have been playing full-time for almost three years now, thanks to my sponsors,” the handsome fighter said.
“Before that I worked a number of odd jobs to fund my training. People thought I was crazy leaving a prestigious company like Aston Martin but they started working shifts and that meant I had to give up the job because I always knew I wanted to be a boxer and everything else revolved around that.
“I want to create a legacy. I would like in years to come if someone says ‘Danny Quartermain’ in the pub or the gym, I would like someone to listen to me and say ‘I remember him, I remember he was in a great fight and he won that title’.

“I have just started making a living out of it and I would like to change the lives of people around me through it too.”
