KSI has been forced to step back from a boxing comeback – and in doing so he took aim at Conor McGregor.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer was scheduled to take on Anthony Taylor and Slim Albahr in a two-on-one handicap bout.

But after a period of uncertainty, KSI has confirmed that the injury will force him to pull out of the event in Dublin on August 31, which will still go ahead.

He spoke out on social media and took a dig at McGregor after the Irishman withdrew from his UFC comeback due to a toe injury.

KSI said: “I have some important news to share and I want you to hear it straight from me. The fight with Slim and AT is off.

“I have been dealing with an injury (not the toe) since I started training for this fight and unfortunately it got worse during camp so you haven’t seen my usual enthusiasm.

“Despite my best efforts to deal with the pain, it has gotten to the point where I can no longer practice, even hit pads or do bag work.

“On the orders of my doctor, I have been advised to withdraw from Misfits 017, which takes place at the 3Arena in Dublin on August 31st.”

KSI, 31, has not fought since his first loss to 25-year-old Tommy Fury in October.

SunSport has learned he suffered the injury during training for the fight, which he lost by controversial decision.

KSI said: “I know this might be disappointing for a lot of you, and I don’t want to let you down.

“However, I will take some time off to rest, so that I can get back in the ring as soon as possible.

“Rest assured, I will be back soon: more fit; more strong; more healthy and ready for any challenge.

“For now, I apologise to the fans, my opponents and everyone involved who feels let down by this decision.

“I give 100% to everything I do and this is not a decision I have taken lightly. I know how far people will go to see me fight in Ireland and I am sorry I have let you all down.

“Thank you for your continued support of everything I do, and I promise you all that I will make it up to you.

“A big thank you to all the fans for sticking with me through every difficult situation. I’d like to thank my team and DAZN for their unwavering support.”

Despite my best efforts to overcome the pain, the situation has now reached the point that I can no longer practice, even hit pads or do bag work.

KSI on his injury

KSI has confirmed that the event – for which tickets were due to sell out at Dublin’s 3Arena – will take place and that he will be in person.

And despite not boxing, the chart-topping rapper will be performing for the crowd.

KSI confirmed: “The event will still go on! Misfits 017 marks our two-year anniversary, so we’ll make sure it’s special.

“Apart from the fights, I will also be doing commentary and giving some exciting performances with some of my new songs.

“If an individual has purchased a ticket and is unhappy with these changes, they can request a refund through their original point of purchase.

“To everyone else, I’m looking forward to meeting you guys and celebrating this special occasion together!
