The Hirsel Golf Club is often regarded as one of Scotland’s best kept secrets and is affectionately known as the ‘Augusta of the Borders’.
Despite its reputation the club has succumbed to financial pressures and at their Annual General Meeting last night committee members voted to file for bankruptcy with immediate effect.
The Hirsel, located in the Borders town of Coldstream, was founded in 1948 but it wasn’t until 1998 that it was expanded to a full 18-hole layout, stretching to 6,024 yards.
The course covers that part of the Hirsel Estate, famous for its ancient Home Lord David Douglas-Home, son of the former Prime MinisterSir Alex Douglas-Home.
