DANNY SIMPSON is being called up for a full-on footy bout even before his boxing debut.
The 2016 Premier League winner with Leicester will face YouTuber Danny Aarons in Dublin on Saturday night.
Misfits Boxing – headed up by YouTuber KSI and his manager Mams Taylor – welcomes social media, celebrity and sports stars to fight in crossover-style bouts.
But Simpson, Cristiano Ronaldo’s former Manchester United teammate, became the first footballer to enter the region.
And he hopes many others will follow his lead, having already been challenged behind the scenes by Preem rival James McLean.
Simpson told SunSport: “I think you should be quite courageous in general if anything. But to be the first…
“I hope it happens, because like I said a lot of the boys like to watch boxing. They say, you always see football players at ringside of boxing competitions.
“So yeah, I think they’re probably waiting to see what happens first!
“I mentioned James McLean in an interview and he DMed me and told me that when he was done, he would come down, compete and get in the ring.
“So I think some of the boys will probably get involved.”

Simpson – during his stint with Newcastle – notoriously clashed with then Sunderland forward McLean.
Furthermore, he has also had his share of online feuds, including his recent one with Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.
“Me and James McLean had a bit of a falling out when we played and he DMed me,” Simpson said.
“I think I had a falling out with Cara in the past, but we’ve sorted that out. Obviously, everyone knows Wazza is a good boxer.
“So, yeah, there are a few names coming up, so we’ll see if you know any of them in the future.”
Wayne Rooney – nicknamed Wazza – was once knocked out by Phil Bardsley during a drunken kitchen brawl.
And Simpson – who came to United alongside Bardsley – backed the hardman full-back’s ability to be a boxer.

He said: “I think my mate Phil Bardsley. I was with him last week and he grew up with boxing and around boxing.
“I would back him to beat anyone on these cards. So I would put him in the mix and put the pressure on him.”
